A friend of mine once made an arrangement of Ives' Variations on America for quintet. It worked so well that he asked Theo. Presser if they were interested in publication. They wrote back and suggested that if he didn't send them all of the scores, parts, copies of parts and sketches of the arrangement to their copyrighted material that they were going to sue his pant off.

In a practical vein, since you are in school, they probably would look at it as 1) some kind of educational allowance and 2) you don't have enough money to be worth sueing.
