Well, you definitely need to do some play-testing. But just to let you know of one option, I purchased a Weril 681 CC tuba from Joe Sellmansberger about 2 years ago for under $2k. I love it. It's done perfectly fine by me. If you are on a budget as I am, and just need a horn that plays nice, without a "prestige" name...then you might want to check out a Weril.
