Hello All,
Thanks for your posts regarding us playing in NYC during the blackout. It was myself and a wonderful young prodigy named Brett Boyd who plays trumpet, banjo, piano, sings etc. We have formed a group called the New Celebration Jazz Band and decided to play on Thursday morning for the NBC Today show window, (Al Roker liked us and they put us on the air). We were trying out horns in Sam Ash later on when the lights went out. We ran back to our hotel, got our instruments and played for the crowds outside of Fox. Don't let anyone tell you that New Yorkers are anything but great people-they gave us free drinks, tips etc. even in that chaos. Later we were interviewed by the NY Post and CBS news and even Tokyo television.

Why did we do it? Because we love to play and thought it might lighten the mood a bit. If you've never played on the street before try it-music for music's sake is great fun and you'll meet all kinds of people. Also playing outside is great for developing sound.
If you're in the NYC area you're bound to see the New Celebration Jazz Band somewhere!
