Here is an interesting thought. Do Bass Trombone and Tuba have the same concept of sound?

For the most part I would say no, but together they create one cohesive unit that defines the sound of a large ensemble. For example, the Bass Trombone can proide a lot of the attack that is difficult to get with larger equipment, but without the breadth of sound that a good Tuba can supply, the loudest Bass Trombone sounds puny and weak in an ensemble.

This being the case, why would anyone think that a section of Tubas should be comprised of the same brand/model. Yes, it makes it easier sometimes b/c all of the horns have the same pitch tendencies, but does that solve the problems of blending with the rest of the ensemble. I would say no. Also, these similar pitch tendenceis can be a detriment to a section. Without different instruments keeping each other "true" a couple of notes can continually be out of tune.

Just some brief thoughts on the subject.
