while learnning to march, just carry the body of the horn not the bell or mouthpeice for a while. After a few days............ then you'll have to bite the bullet. Also get the section to initiate "right sholder arms" from tyime to time. It well make a great show as well as spread the pain to both sides! Also if you can work it out on your horn, you might be able to play that way (wrong sholder) I can. (I'm a really big guy) it looks so wierd that I got My picture on the front page of the paper one time ! Were also one of only a handfull of adult marching bands left in northern california. If your section places the fingers between the buttons when not playing, you can lift the horn a little that waty too.
I don't know if I helped but I love to march and your at least willing to try.
