If most local-yocal music stores were more competitive and weren't often trying to buy new Vito clarinets from Leblanc for c. $310 and sell them for $800 + financing (A price of around $400 offers a tidy little mark-up, particularly in a "captive" market.), not so many parents would (unfortunately, due to ignorance) buy cheap worthless instruments.
Of course, there are always those parents who think they know everything about everything and will still try to "save" $100 - $200 and end up with nothing.
