Some of us oldtimers who have played CC most or all of our lives have the same comments to make about the BBb.

Each horn has specific characteristics that one has to get used to. While the grammar is not good, the thought is. The open notes, overtone series, on a BBb and a CC are different, duh!! although only a step apart. To me, a D sounds "funny" on a BBb tuba because the timbre is different than on a CC tuba. Conversely, a C is bound to sound "funny" on a BBb tuba if that is what you have played on for years. Both use the same fingerings and are in the same place relative to the kind of horn used. They just sound different. You either learn to accept the differences or do like some of us did - we continued to play the horn we like the sound of the best no matter what.
