Playing tuba for a living is no way to get rich. When the only "six figure" jobs are in cities where minimal six-figure salaries offer a low-middle class standard of living, this should be obvious...
...but if you're a college boy fantasizing of such a life (playing the tuba for a living??), you are quickly closing the door.
Tuba players (who might be able to teach you something) lurk on this site daily.
Matt Good (Dallas Symphony) and Mike Sanders (St. Louis Symphony) post here. Mike regularly tells me how stupid I am (and rightly so). Norm Peason of the L.A. Phil occassionally posts on here. I personally know other tuba players ("top five" orchestras) who "lurk" here.
Everyone knows I've made an ass of MYself here, but not in such a sophomo... no...JUVENILE manner.
