In order to start quickly, use the Rubank method books if still in print. The Master Method is also good. Get the Arban book for trombone or tuba; trombone if you want to learn to transpose at the octave, tuba if you don't. I suggest the trombone book so you can get the Bordogni/Rochut - Melodious Etudes, book 1. The Emory Remington warm-ups are great to learn with also.

Take your time. Don't rush things. 30 minutes a day is plenty until you get muscles built up. Learn to play the most innane exercises musically. Even a scale can sound musical.
