After trawling the tuba market in general for the better part of a year, I know of at least 9 models of BBb tuba having five valves. They are-
Miraphone
1291-5v
186-5v
189-5v
191-5v
Meinl Weston-
Model 25E
"Hilgers" model 198
Rudolph Meinl-various models
Thein's 5-piston uber-horn
Gronitz PBK
VMI 3302
Also, CC tubas are not more conical because they are pitched in CC. My horn, an MI-187-4GB, is a more conical version of the 186 BBb. Is it pitched in C? No. It is true, however, that making a horn more conical results in a darker sound, but so does a deeper mouthpiece. On the fundamental level, though, this is the difference between a BBb and CC horn-LESS TUBING. That's all. Different pitches, one step apart. Why do German pros still play BBb?
