Absolutely band was uncool at my High School. That's why I loved it. It meant I could lead a group, do something I loved, and I didn't have to constantly associate with the idiots that roamed the halls and threw balls to each other.
I didn't mind not getting the "cool" chicks because if they're fickle enough to go after some moron just because he plays on a losing high school football team, I say forget them.
There were some cool folks in band,just not "cool" cool. I had my band friends, AP friends, and with a 4.6 GPA the jocks respected me, so it was fine. Just be successful, and don't worry about "coolness."
