Kid are like sheepand follow their leader. If the lead says band is "uncool", then of course it is uncool. I wish I had "The Answer" for you, but it will take a dynamic person, and district that will make the committment and follow through with it. It means that band can not be scheduled in opposition to required classes, school instruments have to be good quality and look good, and an active, involved band parent organization has to be behind the kids encouraging them to practise, getting them to rehearsals and gigs, fund raising, etc.. Once the program is again "Cool", then it will be an on going job to keep it there. If the leader(s) can be sold on band, then the sheep will follow. BTW, I don't intend the term "Sheep" to be applied too literally, so please don't take me to task for calling kids animals or dumb that's not the context of my statement.
