Don Butterfield was a great NY studio and jazz tubist who helped give the tuba a place in commercial music. He played with the American Symphony for many years, and has played with Frank Sinatra and many other greats of the popular genre. He played 4/4 piston American made BBb's for his career, not the 'mandatory' CC or F. He was / is also a great instructor, director, and composer / arranger. Last I heard, he still lived in Jersey and was teaching at Montclair State College. He was greatly known for having a lot of STYLE in his playing.
