A friend of mine had a 3v compensating Besson euph, and for the life of me I've never been able to figure the thing out. It does work, though -- I played a rehearsal once on a 3v BBb Besson comp tuba and I never had to correct for 1-3 or 1-2-3. Wish I could find a good comp sousaphone!

I have seen diagrams of 4v comp systems (Dave Werden's page, for example), but I've seen these described in some product literature as "semi-double compensating"... Which, I'll assume, means that the 1-2-3 valves are compensated only when the 4th is depressed, but not amongst themselves -- IOW, a 1-2-3 fingering would be as sharp as a non-comp system, but 2-4 would be exactly right (or 1-2-3-4, for that matter). Every 4-valve compensating euph I've seen in person so far is like this.

I still haven't seen a diagram of a 3v compensating system, though -- is there one on the web somewhere?

Thanks,
Leland
