I have played a few of the Holton/Phillips tuba at shows.

It is based on an old York/Holton tuba from around the turn of the century. It is not a large horn, designed for quintet or solo work - the type of playing Harvey does. This is not the horn to use for large orchestral work as it does not have a large sound. It is a small CC tuba! The intonation is OK but let's face it, a horn with perfect intonation does not exist.

After years of no American made tubas, it is great that Elkhorn, Wisconsin now produces two, the Holton/Phillips and Getzen G-50. While both are made i the same city, designed based on old Yorks, they are different horns.
