I played a Marzan 'Solo' model one year. CC 4 pistons, silver. GREAT solo (DUH!) and quintet horn. Where I went to school (Otterbein College, Columbus, Ohio) we also had 3 BBb 4 Rotary horns. The rotors were 'tilted' so your hand position was like that on a front piston tuba. Also, the rotory horns has a short leadpipe that currently is in vogue with the 'York' style piston tubas. ALL of the instruments had the MAIN tuning slide pointing up, at the top branch near the player's left hand. ANY note could be tuned on the fly. This made ANY type of tuning jigger totally unecessary. Sorry there aren't more of these horns around. Is Fred still around??
