Doug,

A "kicker" slide is what you are talking about, and while some folks might
have you reaching over the top of your horn to pull that slide, there are still
a lot of reasons good enough for having one put on there. In fact this was
really popular to do in the LA area when everyone was playing Mirafones
in the 70's...Roger Bobo's 184 I believe had kickers installed on both the 1st
and 5th tuning slides, I know when I met Tony Clements HIS 184 was set up this way,
thumbs actuate the kicker, fingers the valve paddles. Rob Stewart in the Encino area
did/should do that kind of work if you are on the left coast, but your local repair
person s/b able to do this for you no problemo.
