Along with everything else mentioned, do this: (maybe, im not sure-never done it before)

1. Buy recordings of tubas, get him used to the sound.
2. Take him to music stroes and let him look, and if possible, touch.
3. Find pictures of tuba players, as well as posters.
4. Check ebay, there are so many nifty tuba figurines for him to have. My personal favorite, that i found last year is tigger in the Pooh band playing the tuba. I didn't get it, and I wish I had. If he grows up seeing and experiencing it, he'll probably like it.

But don't in all this keep him from exploring all instruments. I know lots of musicians who like listening to the tuba, but prefer playing something else.
