My son, Isaac, is now 4 1/2. He really enjoys the "Kindermusic" program, which is a series of music classes filled with age appropriate and fun activities. Rhythm, scales and modes, dance, the use of scarves, balls, instruments, and other odds and ends are all worked into the program. The classes for 2 year olds would involve parent(or grandparent)participation as well. Its a really great first exposure to music, and the kids just eat it up!
I like the alto horn idea. Isaac does get to toot on my tuba once in a while, and gets a reasonable sound- makes mama proud :)
