Perhaps you are approaching it like your bigger horn. I follow the school of thought that an F tuba is a different animal than a CC and should sound different. You probably don't need to shorten the tuning slide. You could pull the slide out 4 inches and still play in tune if you know where the sound lies. Just put time in on the horn. Don't go overboard with tuner practice, or other factors such as sound quality and musical thought could be left behind.

New horns take time, especially horns in unfamiliar pitches.
