Your words just hearkened me back to Mrs. Ridlehuber's band class (no, I'm not making that name up!) We'd play a Bb scale, and she'd turn to a baritone player named Ken, who liked to play with his tuning slide, and tell him "push in".

I don't know that much about F tuba, but the (huge) bass bone I used to play was probably comparable when I pulled the F trigger. When I first started, I had a very similar problem, and it did turn out to be the MP. Try a piece that's made for an F, and see if the tuning clears up. If so, then the search begins for an F MP that plays in tune and gives the sound you want. Good luck!
