I own a 2165 and the low register is great.I think the problem could be your approach.It took me a while to realize that slow air at a high volume is how these horns respond best.I used to really move the air fast down low and it is just counter productive.I love my horn and I play in a very loud orchestra and this horn balances in the low register no sweat.I should say that my horn is a newer 2165 with the bigger valves ,I have no idea if that makes a difference.If I were you I'd contact Dave Fedderly at Baltimnore Brass Co.He has some good ones, and will steer you in the right direction.
