Tom,

I am surprised you didn't find anything useful in your archive search, there has been a fair amount of discussion about these tubas in the past year or two. f.w.i.w. the tuba Mr. Fedderly is selling looks like one of the "German" origin ones....and NOT one of the big Czech-built ones. The German ones are reported to have been built by Cerveny and by Alexander (!) while the big Czech-built ones were from some Cerveny-controlled co-op. Since the one in Baltimore is nickel-silver plated I'd wager it came from Alexander when they were trying some more "production-line" approaches with all their horns to help make ends meet in the 50's/60's. Call Mr. Fedderly, and talk to him directly about it. I know that if there were ANY students in my area looking for a BBflat tuba I'd have 'em give that nickel-plated beasty a blow -- EVEN if they had much more $$ to spend!
