About the Anton Dehmal…I just got it back from Dick Ackright, my repair guy in Oakland (CA). There was some discussion about the fingering. One fellow described about how you can use the 6-valve Viennese system as a ‘double’ tuba. I set up the valves on the left side (1, 2 & 5) so that they played an in-tune perfect 4th. Using the RIGHT hand valves (3, 6 & 4) you can ACTUALLY play the thing like a 3-valve in CC. There are a few changes, like the low G & G-flat, but above C below the staff, you can use the three valves ‘as is’ to play it in CC. Of course, there are some stuffy notes, like D-flat with ALL SIX valves down, but chromatically, IT WORKS! If you ever get out my way, give a call and come over and play this thing. It’s a GAS!
