After I get my new CC horn in January, I'm planning on revitalizing my current horn somewhat. It's an old BBb Alexander, with about 75% or so of the lacquer remaining, but is blemished by numerous dents, especially on the bottom bow, which has a much denser silver-plated coverpiece on it, also dented. I was wondering if removing these dents would improve playing characterstics at all. I'm also wanting to experiment with the lacquer a bit, perhaps removing it or re-lacquering it altogether. One last thing: I don't remember the exact measurements which I took some time back, but I believe that the bell is around 18". Can anyone predect what would happen if I were to have someone convert this horn to a CC, and would that be a wise thing to do? Any input, idea, accusations, whatever would be much appreciated.
