I agree with Jay. I have always heard it at and taken it at a half note=96. But it does not matter how fast we tell you to take it, it matters how fast you can take it and still sound good. If you can play the first half at 96, but the second half only sounds good at 76, then take it at 76. Most importantly, make it sound like a baroque french dance! Make sure the accent the downbeats, because back when bach was alive, high society folks were idiots. They didn't know when to do what, unless the musicians told them to via accents and such.
Have fun with this piece. It is a great one, and one that all players should play. Make sure you really get yourself into come, sweet death. It is emotional and sounds great if the player truly expresses themselves, just make sure you save your forte for the end!
