I have always sworn by the Korg DTM-12 tuner/metronome. It quickly picks up the lowest register of the tuba and is easy to see with it's LEDs. Also has the metronome to make packing lighter. I also bought a cheapo contact mic at a music shop for 8 bucks or so which clips to the bell for noisy situations.
I did try out an old Peterson 12 wheel tuner this weekend and could see the overtones in my sound coming over the various wheels. Didn't really have much time to really get anything productive out of it though. Plus it made an aweful racket while it ran.
