At the time Mr. Bell made this recording, "shtick" was about all there was. This recording predates the emergence of Harvey Philips, let alone Roger Bobo and those who came along subsequently with their following of composers and collaborators. And what if he did record most of the selections on an Eb Sousaphone? He was the artist. He brought the music to life - his way. We may say with a half century hindsight, it's a bit quaint, but hey, it's cool, and we should all have a chance to hear it.

And by the way, what kind of albums has Patrick Sheridan been making? In the record business, it's known as "crossover."
