I'm surprised that no one mentioned the hottest tuba of all, Rich Matteson, on the "Louis Armstrong and the Dukes of Dixieland" recording. It came out originally around 1962, but I think it has been reissued on CD.
There is also some hot tuba on the recent recordings of the Galvanized Jazz Band. Visit galvanizedjazz.com for info.
