I've spent more time on a YBB-321 than I care to remember. Its an OK high school tuba. Its certainly capable of high school band playing in that it can support a fairly large ensemble.
My main complaint is that it is very cumbersome. Both in its style of playing and its design. Mine is pretty old and it weighs about 25 lbs (55 in the case), basically its no fun to carry around. Its very open in the low register, but it takes a lot of air to produce larger sounds (I mean moreso than other instruments). Also mine is a little thin and doesn't slot up well in higher registers.
Of course the tuba that has become my "measuring stick" is my friend's PT-6, so this tuba is obviously going to pale in comparison. If I were you, I'd look into the St. Petersburg. I've never played one, but apparently they're ideal for your situation.
