I'm not going to try to answer all your questions, as I feel there are regular posters on this board far more qualified to do so than me (especially given the recently discussed differences in playing style between europe and the states), but I am intrigued as to how far you overshot the solo by for it still to sound the correct intervals. I am not familiar with the solo in question (at least not by name, I may well know the tune) but I would have thought it would need to be VERY high pitched for this to happen, even on a BBb or CC tuba. Did you feel that you were lipping a lot of notes into tune of did they slot nicely? How high did it push the top notes? Did you transpose the key signature? What was the starting note supposed to be and how much did you miss by?

Sorry for not posting something more helpful but I am really confused.

James.
