I prefer front action valves to the top action valves of both of these models. As Charlie said, these two are essentially the same horn. They are well made and decent playing intermediate levels instruments. For about the same money I would definitely suggest they consider the King 2341. It has a smaller bore, but has 4 front action valves and as another poster said is built to stand up to the type of abuse which unfortunately happens too often in a school setting.
