He doesn't want to hear about a stand (how half the tuba players in the world solve the problem). He doesn't want to hear about adjusting the leadpipe, or finding a horn that is already set up correctly (how the other half deals with the problem). He just wants to know if there's a trick some manufacturer has tried.

He gets huffy and obnoxious when these tried-and-true suggestions are offered by real people who solved their real problems. HIS tuba fits fine, so this is not a problem that he is actually facing. So why would somebody ask about "making a tuba fit" if theirs fits? Sounds a little disengenuous to me, especially considering the ungrateful huffiness, unless...

...He wants to design something, patent it, and sell the idea to tuba manufacturers. Which means he's using us for market research or patent research. That's why it's apparently a Big Secret.
