A few months ago I had the same questions. I actually went with a Miraphone Eb, mostly because I felt that I could better justify buying a bigger horn if my first was an Eb. (Btw, if you're looking for an all-purpose Eb, the Miraphone works better than the Besson does, IMO). I ended up selling the horn because I just didn't like the compensating register (I couldn't get used to the response in the low register). If you want to get an all-purpose Eb, I would suggest looking at some 5 valve models, like the Willson and Walter-Nirchel (Rudy Meinl makes an Eb too that would be worth a look at).

Didn't Roger Bobo say that if he could own only one horn, it would be an Eb?

Personally, I think small CC's and large Eb's have the same abilities, so you should just go with whatever you feel most comfortable with. Do you ever want to play in a brass band? You should take that into consideration, too.
