I loved reading your post. My experiences almost 40 yrs ago in an Army band had some similarity to your weekly routine in terms of short work hours. That was at Ft.Lewis WA in 1961-62. On post was the 48 piece Fourth Infantry Division Band, and the small 28 piece 21st Army Band of which I was a member. The Division Band worked long hours, did the grunt work, went on field exercises in the woods and mud, etc. The 21st did post parades, retirement ceremonies, honor guards, retreats, etc., and always wore clean clothes. Averge hours worked each day was around three. Needless to say, the musicians in the other band were always trying to transfer into our unit.

By the way, I am very proud of you and Sean being in the service of our great country. Military music assignments are important, especially at the DC level.
