I've heard Hirsbrunner makes the best F tuba, but since I haven't played it, I really shouldn't say any more.
Why piston? I like pistons over rotary valves too, but the best F I ever played was a rotary valve horn (the 4/4 Rudy Meinl).
Where did you play a Walter Nirschel F? As far as bass tubas go, I thought that they only made Eb's.
