Point taken, but I talk with highway engineers in places like Minnesota, North Dakota, and Michigan on a frequent basis, and they have all sorts of stories about people who take for granted their ability to drive in lots of snow, even when it's packed down. These are the same folks who laugh at southerners who are not equipped or experienced to deal with it--sometimes the joke's on them. The maximum safe speed on packed snow is maybe 30 mph (according to the pros). That would make that Calgary to Chicago run a long one indeed. I'll take my chances with the airlines.
