how does it change the playing characteristics of the horn?
I've used transparent rubber tubing (from a hardware store) on my B+H, B+S and Willson tubas for years, and have listened carefully for a change in characteristics, but have noticed none.
I've never bothered to join the ends, it makes it easier to put back on when it (inevitably) partially comes off in the gig bag.
