Bass trombone in a quintet does not work as well as a tuba. I have heard a very above average (not professional) bass trombonist play in a brass quintet, and is good, but has intonation problems and speed problems. Tuba is much easier, and compliments the sound of the quintet nicely in my opinion. Most people use smaller tubas in a quintet setting such as a F or EEb, but a small CC could be used if you back off.
