The CB players could have played at the convention the hosaphone players on generic (in that context) instruments, and still outsound most other brass/plastic ensembles.

Once led an octet of 2 trumpets plus two alto, three tenor, and one bassbone through a renaissance repertory at cultural convention held in a building of the period. Playing the 1st alto myself, I did not miss neither horn nor tuba for one second.

But any attempts to man baritone, euph, or tuba parts in bands with trombones, do tell of the values of conical brass.

The right instrument for the right situation!

PS:
The trombone II option marked on tuba parts hardly will be found on works written for the medium.

I would not let commercial arrangements of casual music influence the manning of the group.
