I'd suggest trying different possibilities to discover what you and the other members of the group like best. Try recording pieces with the group, using different instruments. Your group will have more flexibility if you have more flexibility. I've had professional success playing everything from a bass trombone to Eb tuba, F tuba, small CC, large CC, even a 6/4 BBb in a brass quintet, depending upon the group and the playing situation. Try your available options, and have fun! By the way, I feel sorry for any individual who has been so mis-led as to think that a BBb tuba is inferior to anything.
