F-tuba is a great choice, but I'm confident you, as most, can play a big tuba in balance with any group. Maybe a Yorkbrunner in a tuba/flute duo is overstepping a little bit, but what you propose is well within normal bounds. You always sound like someone who is confident in their ability(a good thing). I understand your argument about tone, etc. I say - do what you feel is right. F-tuba? It'll work great. BAT? It'll work great. BAT might be less work, easier playing, etc., etc. Good luck.
