I have 2 tubas with the same valve cluster as that of Rick's York Master. One is a York-York; the other's a Marzan. I do NOT have large hands, nor are they particularly loose-jointed (I can't do the Spock "Live Long and Prosper" thng without help). But I didn't notice the 4th valve stretch other than the first time I held any of these horns. And both of my horns have a 5th valve trigger on the thumb, so the latitude of movement is even smaller than Rick's 4-banger.

Maybe, Rick, you should look into repositioning your thumbring or modifying its angle in relation to the valve cluster? It took some finagling with the Marzan before I found a position that was comfy.

I'm far more uncomfortable on the little Conn 3J valve buttons--the tops are dead flat and about the size of a trumpet's.

Actually, if you're looking for a wide spacing, try a 4-valve Conn with short-action valves.
