As a matter of technique, does anyone rememeber the web site with the pictures of brass players playing through the transparent mouthpiece? The tuba low notes showed pretty dramatically the upper lip "flapping in the breeze." To get the really low pedals, I have to move the mouthpiece towards my nose, so that upper lip has room to flap as needed. I wonder, Rick, if you have tried this?
From someone not a tuba teacher and certainly no where near as good as Rick, but someone who can play pedals pretty well.
