Hello,

The tubaquartet I used to play with played quite a few barbershop quartet pieces. The way that the parts broke down is as follows:

1st. Euph - Soprano line (Assuming the music is written SATB)
1st. Tuba - Alto line played down 1 octave
2nd. Euph - Tenor Line played as written
2md. Tuba - Bass line played as written

We found that having the tuba play the alto line down an octave made the pieces easier to play...and a little bit easier to listen to. It was my first experience at reading treble clef on a tuba, and I will be honest and say that it took me a couple of weeks to get the hang of it.
