The thread below about "that range" on the F tuba was quite interesting.
The time I was tootling on a PT15, I realised where I had experienced this register problem before. No, it wasn't just on my previous F tuba tootles.
It was actually on my Bb tuba!!!
With a Peter Gane(?) mute in use, the exact same notes (harmonically speaking) didn't want to speak properly, like on an F tuba. These notes are Gb,F,E & Eb below the staff on my Bb.
Given the fact that these horns are a 5th apart in pitch, both have the same problems but one when a mute is in. Does anyone think there is a connection?
I haven't had a chance to play with different mutes.
Am I rambling??? Let me know.
FYI, those notes are easily fixed by adding a tube to the mute opening of about 4-8 inches.
