I didn't know about the solder joints, and frankly I question that WD-40 would dissolve silver solder joints.  That question aside, I learned from experience much like describe above that WD-40 will actually freeze the valves.  Lots of suggestions given already would likely get you buy, but I think the best thing to do is to borrow some oil from a trumpet or euphonium player.  I'd not chance even 3-in-1 oil, I think it's still too heavy.  Kerosene (lamp oil) would work, but how many of us still have lamps?  Just mooch a dose of regular oil from a buddy, then be more responsible about your own equipment.  (I"m a teacher, can you tell?)
