Here's a idea from a different perspective :)
Marching with a sousaphone, I couldn't read the music in the lyre with the top of my varilux three part lenses. Also, couldn't angle my head up to look through the bottom lens. Also, couldn't hold the music far enough away in my hand to read and still maintain a grip! I wound up getting clip on half lenses for the TOP of my glasses. Works great and they flip up out of the way when I want to see distance. Don't know if this will help your problem, but it did solve mine.
