I consider everything about the false notes special, so I do not pretend any of them to be in the harmonic series.
But when it comes to lowering them chomatically, the valves work relatively to the open false note as they do to the open real harmonics. With those great modications, that intonation, timbre, and all other aspects are much less stable.
Hence the ear is much more involved in false notes than in real notes. My ear not only governs pitch, but everything I do when making music. No thinking in brass technical terms, if I am weel prepared. That was my hidden agenda behind the use of "ear and feel" in my previous posting.
