I came across this thread on the Canadian Brass Yahoo eGroup link. It tells about the history of the horn from the man who plays it. It's pretty interesting.

Hi
Canadian Brass created the CB 50 in the early 1990's. It was built
with parts we had made for us in Germany (Vogtlandische
Musikinstrumente) and Wisconsin (Getzen). In 1998 we returned to
Yamaha and sold the rights to our fantastic tuba to the Getzen
company, who continued selling it as a Getzen 50.
It is an instrument that York could have built, since it is all
York. The bell is from their 3/4 EEb tuba, the body from their 4/4
BBb tuba and the valves are .689 inch bore.
York would have made the mistake of putting .650 valves on this
model, since it is only now, with the advantage of time, we can see
that the .689 is quite a magical valve size.
Bob Rusk and I were the originators of this tuba; really we were
the "arrangers" with the underlying "composition" being the York Band
Instrument company of the early 20th century.
Hope this clarifies the background for this tuba.
best
chuck
